Phosphate Fertiliser ‘Crisis’ Threatens World Food Supply

On the 6th September 2019 the Guardian Newspaper ran an article exploring the future risks associated with managing the finite stocks of phosphate, a nutrient essential for all plant growth and human health and in the discussion led by Dr Martin Blackwell of Rothamsted Research our first publication in PLOS One out the previous day was discussed.

The environmental journalist, Damian Carrington explains the global challenge for ensuring that phophate, predominately an extraction related mineral, is available for future crop growth. Currently there are a number of companies exploring the way that phosphates can be recovered from waste streams. Elemental Digest raidly and safely recovers Phosphate and other essential minerals from abattoir by products and useful industrial waste products, providing a safe, zero waste and circular model for their fertiliser known a Thallo®.
